Minutes of the regular monthly meeting of the Mayor and Council of the
City of Ammon held June 24th, 1968 in the Council ~chambers.
Mayor Richardson presided and conducted. Prayer was offered by Council-
~an Leo Heer. The meeting convened at 8:15 P. M.
Present were Mayor Richardson, Councilmen Leo Heer, Roy Southwick~d Keith
Turnbow. City Attorney Jde Anderson, Chief of Police Marshall Havemann,
Lavern Williams, Clerk Jesse Bunnell and Merle Quigley.
Merle Quigley made application to the Mayor and Council to start a new
business at his residence of Rawson~ that of a ceremic manufacturing
and distributing point ans well as lawn mower sharpening. After con-
sidering his application Mayor Richardson suggested that Mr. Quigley
that he refer the matter to Rex Budge, Chairman of the Planning Comm.
There were two bids SLlbmitted for Fire insurance on City property.
Homer-Koster Co. bid $1096 for a 3 year period and Burns-Mullin Agency
bid $1026 for a 3 year period. It was the opinion of the Mayor and
Council that further study shoulq be made before a final decision was
made as to how much insurance should be carri8d by ~he 8ity on it~
property. ~

Mayor Richardson asked members of the Council what their feeling was on
insuring the pumphouses. It was the feeing of the group that they were
in favor of either having full coverage of well pumps and motors and
well houses., if the cost was nit prohibitive, or if so then to not insure
either the motors or houses.
City Engineer David Benton arrived at 9:50 P. M.
Councilman Leo Heer introduced the new Police Chief, Marshall Havemann.
Councilman Turnbow reported that the swimming pool seeded to be paying
it's way so far, as near as could be determined.
Councilman Southwick made a motion that the City make anK agreement
with Fred and Wayne to hook on to their well by either paying a spec-
ified amount each month or to pay the power bill plus a set amount each
month. Councilman Heer seconded the motion. The Clerk was directed to
record the vote, which he ~id, and all voted in the affirmative.
Mayor Richardson and Councilman Southwick were designated to negotiate
with Fred and Wayne on the type of contract to make with them on use of
their well.
Engineer David Benton was asked to check into the cost of installing a
small compressor on each of two City wells to maintain proper pressure.
Councilman Heer stated that Chief of Police Havemann was going to a.ttend
fhe 3 week F.B.I. police *5 school a.t Pocatello beginning July 8th.
Councilman Heer made a motfuchn that Chief Havemann .be sentto the school
and that the City provide additional funds needed to do this. The motion
was seconded by Councilman Southwick. The Clerk called for a vote and
all Councilmen voted in favor.
Councilman Heer was given approval to allow a group of gir~s to sell food
outside the swimming pool fence so long as they adhered to sanitary
regulations.
COlmcilman Southwick made the motion that the Council adopt the following
Resolution. .
Whereas, it being evident that the present water connect~ons rates
withiB the City at present are much too low,
lihereas, it bEing evident that at the present rates the City loses
money on each new water connection made,
Therefore, be it resolved that fro~ this date, June 24, 1968, the
following rates shall apply to any new water connections made-
3/4 in pipe------------ $90.00
1 in pipe ------------$100.00
l~sin pipe ------------$125.00f
l~ in pipe ------------$150.00
2 in pipe for public buildings only.$300.00 plus meter cost. Any
extras to be paid for by the owner such as costa of replacing concrete,
paving., compaction, etc.
Councilman Heer seconded the motion to adopt the above Resolution. The
Clerk called lor a vote and it was unanimous in favor.
The monthly bills Wl!re approved for payment.
