City of Ammon
Special Meeting Monda~ February 26, 1962
Present: Mayor Reed Molen, City Council, Mr. David Welch, representing U.S.
Army Corps of Engineers from i,valla Walla, Washington, Also Frank Gelsliechter and
sterling Roberts of the Annnon Lion's Culb. Also present was Mr. J. H. Beddow
representing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers from ltlalla ~!lalla, Washington.
Mr. Glenn H. Von Gunten gave a statistical report on floods and flood damage.
He said the flood of February 11, 1962 was the worst in this area since the
year of 1903. He said that 40 % of the water that came down through the valley
came from Willow Creek and its tributaries according to survey.
Some discussion of a dam on Willow Creek being built could be large enough
to hold back the flood water. The balance could be controled by other canals
etc.
The damage done by this one flood would almost pay for building a Ririe Willow
Creek Dam.
As this is election year, t"ose here were encouraged to write their Congress-
men and get some action on flood control measures. Wrtie. as a group not as
an individual.
